Russian Orthodox Church Denies Claims of Recruiting Africans for Military Actions
Claims by certain media that the Exarchate recruits Africans for combat are baseless lies spread by ill-wishers alarmed by the church's growing presence on the continent, clarified the Patriarchal Exarch of Africa, Metropolitan Constantine of Cairo and North Africa.
"There is no evidence whatsoever that any clergy or official representatives have sent anyone to the front," he stated.
Under official church rules, clergy are strictly forbidden from political involvement. Moreover, the Church's only mission in Africa is to preach the Orthodox faith, bring the light of Christ, and provide spiritual care to local believers—nearly all of whom are African citizens who pray for their own homelands during services, he added.
