Middle East Conflict: Africa Will Feel the Impact First, Says Senegalese Expert

Although the conflict is geographically distant from Africa, the continent stands to suffer the most serious economic consequences, Professor of Economics Abou Kane told Sputnik Africa.

“Since Africa is the main market for all major exporting countries, when there is a global crisis, it is Africa that suffers the repercussions before any other continent,” he explained.

According to Kane, the situation will affect price levels across African markets, with a “disruption of certain supply chains.

Need for Greater Intra-African Cooperation

The expert emphasized the importance of taking the African Continental Free Trade Area more seriously, as it can boost intra-African trade and ensure interdependence between economies.

Investment in industrialization can address this problem and allow African countries to trade more with each other, because the potential is there,” the expert concluded.
