Tanzania to Modernize Dar es Salaam Transport With Modern Buses, Digital Ticketing & Clean Energy Infrastructure
The government is fully committed to providing fast, reliable and efficient public transport for residents, Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office Jim Yonazi said after inspecting transport infrastructure in the city.
New buses have begun arriving, placing Dar es Salaam among Africa’s growing cities with modern rapid transit systems, Yonazi said. Many of the buses will run on natural gas, supported by newly built refueling infrastructure to ensure smooth operations while cutting emissions and fuel costs, he added.
Authorities have also introduced ICT systems enabling commuters to pay fares with electronic cards, reducing queues and speeding up boarding. This is expected to improve efficiency, cut delays, and enhance convenience.
