Africa Must Wake Up & Start Working on Itself: Tanzanian Entrepreneur

The future of African industry lies in adding value at home — not exporting opportunity abroad, Masoud Kipanya, founder and president of Kaypee Motors, told Sputnik Africa.

According to him, building one factory creates an ecosystem: a single car requires components from multiple suppliers, driving outsourcing, partnerships and industrial growth.

Calling the pandemic a wake-up call, Kibanya pointed to self-reliance. If countries can close borders and depend on their own markets, he argued, Africa, with 1.4 billion people, must learn to harness its scale.

"Why do I believe in Africa? I believe in Africa because I know we have competent people, we have beautiful land, and most of the material that is being used elsewhere in the world is coming from Africa. So we have almost everything.
