DR Congo-Burundi Border Reportedly Reopens After Two-Month Closure Amid Regional Conflict
Authorities from both countries agreed to resume cross-border movement at the Gatumba border post under regular procedures, local media reported, citing a statement from migration authorities.
"Those currently in Burundi can cross today in complete tranquility," authorities said.
Burundian authorities closed the Gatumba border post on December 10, 2025, after M23 rebels captured the nearby city of Uvira in eastern DRC, disrupting a vital trade route for communities on both sides. Congolese forces regained control of Uvira in January.
