Zimbabwe Urges Industries to Reflect Local Heritage, Not Just 'Wild Fruits,' to Drive Exports: Minister

Local industries should utilize indigenous resources, International Trade Minister Amon Murwira said, citing examples like wine made from native fruits such as tsubvu, muhute, and mazhanje.

Speaking at the ZimTrade Annual Exporters' Awards, he challenged the notion of labeling local fruits as "wild," arguing that such terminology reflects a colonial mindset.

"There is no tree that grows in a house—they grow in the forests. There is no domestic and wild tree," Murwira said, adding that once people know that "wild fruits" is not an appropriate term, that's the beginning of the development of Africa.

The push aims to transform Zimbabwe's rich heritage into unique, marketable products for global export, creating jobs and fostering economic sovereignty, he noted.
