Uganda's Museveni Launches Bukungu–Kagwara–Kaberemaido Ferry, Calling It Key Driver of Economic Growth
The ferries were built by the Uganda National Roads Authority with Tanzanian firm Songoro Marine Transport as contractors.
Museveni urged moving beyond mere survival, stressing that wealth comes from production, value addition, and productivity.
He also hinted at expanding water transport, resuming night operations, protecting Lake Kyoga, promoting responsible development, and ensuring the ferries meet international standards.
The new ferry cuts travel from eight to 1.5 hours, lowers costs, reduces post-harvest losses, and boosts trade and incomes for farmers and traders, Bukungu Town Council LCII Chairperson Mathias Aribo Nyadundo said.
