A total of 20,000 solar home systems are to be installed at a cost of around $3.2 million, a Chinese news outlet reported.
The project would support Tanzania's blue economy by enabling fishermen to add value to fish products, while also boosting aquaculture, seaweed farming and beach tourism, Deputy Minister for Energy Salome Makamba was quoted by a news outlet as saying.
To ensure affordable electricity access in remote areas, the government will cover up to 75% of connection costs, she added.
The initiative is set to be completed within two years, Rural Energy Agency Acting Director General Jones Olotu noted.
