No More Raw Exports From Ghana: Mahama Reiterates Push for Local Processing

“We will no longer export raw cashew, raw shea, or unprocessed rubber while importing the same finished products at higher prices,” John Dramani Mahama declared at the Ghana Tree Crops Investment Summit in Accra.

He urged foreign firms trading in raw commodities to establish local processing plants—or leave the market.

Recently, Mahama has consistently pushed to halt unprocessed exports, outlining key goals:

🟠Achieve 50–60% annual local processing and expand agro-industrial parks.

🟠By 2030, ban all raw mineral ore exports—processing must happen domestically to create youth opportunities.

🟠Stop selling raw cocoa abroad; instead, buy and process it locally—Ghana already has capacity for 400,000 tonnes of beans.
