‘Foreign mercs not covered by Geneva Convention’: Zakharova reacts to report about Dutch pilots fighting for Ukraine

The Netherlands is being increasingly drawn into direct conflict with Russia by sending mercenaries who fly F-16 fighter jets, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated.

"This is a clear example of Dutch pragmatism — there is no need to pay for the disposal of old aircraft, and at the same time, they can save on pension and social benefit payments to their veterans," she said.

Foreign mercenaries are not covered by the Geneva Convention on humane treatment of non-combatants, she recalls in this regard.
