A strike by the Kenya Aviation Workers Union disrupted Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, leaving travelers stranded for hours or unsure if their flights would depart, local media reported.
Multiple airlines reported significant departure delays, some flights were cancelled, and others urged passengers not to come to the airport until further notice.
The union launched the strike on Monday despite a court order barring it, citing unresolved collective bargaining talks and the use of temporary contracts for permanent roles.
Kenya’s Civil Aviation Authority said it seeks an amicable resolution. The country’s transport minister reportedly convened emergency talks with both sides on Tuesday to break the deadlock.
