Africa’s Trade Future Lies in Value-Added Products, Not Raw Materials, UN Official Says

As the continent moves toward greater intra-Africa trade, there is a strong focus on not just trading raw materials but adding value to products for export, Claver Gatete, Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Africa, told Sputnik Africa on the sidelines of the Africa Business Forum 2026.

“Our trade amount with each other, even with our neighbors, was in the range of 14 to 15%. Now it's going up; it’s reached 17%.”
