South Africa's Role Appreciated by Continent: MFA Spox
on Country's Election to AU Peace & Security Council
South Africa can do a lot more to ensure that there's peace, security, and stability on the African continent, Chrispin Phiri told Sputnik Africa.
The Peace and Security Council plays a crucial role in addressing national security issues and restoring proper governance, Phiri added. He stressed the importance of supporting African initiatives rather than replacing them, a focus South Africa will continue to prioritize.
Looking ahead, Phiri shared that South Africa aims to work closely with the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) to achieve concrete outcomes by 2028, particularly in advancing Agenda 2063.
Success will be measured by metrics used by AUDA-NEPAD, focusing on:

🟠addressing unconstitutional government changes,
🟠tackling terrorism.
