Kenya Plans to Import Electricity from Ethiopia to Supply Mandera County With More Power: Media
Kenya shall, in the short term, deploy a 3-megawatt generator to steady the power supply while accelerating efforts to link Mandera to Ethiopia's grid, a local news outlet reported, citing President William Ruto.
“For Kenya, it offers immense promise. We are ready to sign a power purchase agreement with Ethiopia to off-take surplus electricity to power our industries, ICT hubs, manufacturing, and agro-processing,” he noted.
The initiative will boost competitiveness, generate employment, and promote sustainable development, the president added.
The planned grid connection to Ethiopia forms part of a broader regional energy partnership, a news outlet emphasized.
