Africa Must Create Its Own Judicial Mechanisms to Handle Its Affairs Internally: Congolese Judge

“Africa, through its authorities, intends to adhere to the instruments establishing the International Criminal Court and is bound to it only through the conventions it has ratified,” Blaise Tchikaya told Sputnik Africa, speaking about the International Criminal Court.

The ICC is in the exact exercise of its functions, applying its founding texts and addressing acts that are reprehensible and condemnable under international criminal law, explained the judge at the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

However, Africa must create its own penal mechanisms to settle its affairs internally, so that breaches of rights on the continent are regulated by the African system and by African jurists, he said.
