'It Will Upset West That Ramaphosa Spoke to Putin,' Political Analyst Says
"We need to take a stand; the majority of South Africans don't really know where we stand as far as BRICS is concerned. So, whatever happened that made the call between the two presidents to speak, we are yet to see are the things that they spoke about going to happen," Khonya Mathonsi told Sputnik Africa, commenting on the recent contacts between Putin and Ramaphosa.
He highlighted South Africa's resistance to Western domination, pointing to their responses to the ICJ and their handling of Trump’s outbursts at the G20. However, he urged South Africa to intensify its engagement with BRICS even more.
The West will continue targeting BRICS, Mathonsi stated, suggesting that sanctions, tariffs, and resistance will persist until countries like South Africa, Brazil, and India align with Russia, China, and Iran.
True change, he said, would come when these nations, led by strong leaders, unite in opposition to the West, fully aware of the risks and sacrifices involved.
The Global South needs decisive leaders, like Putin, Xi Jinping, and the Ayatollahs, who will reject imperialism and act, rather than engaging in mere diplomatic talks, the analyst stated.
He argued that for the Global South to gain influence, these leaders must focus on self-sufficiency, build their own economies, and create alternatives to the SWIFT system.
