Aviation Industry Has Opportunities for Everyone, Especially Women: Tanzanian Aircraft Maintenance Engineer

In an interview with Sputnik Africa, Hawa Nzota, an aircraft maintenance engineer with Air Tanzania, reflected on her 10 years in aviation.

She shared that her journey began in high school, where she struggled to decide on her subjects due to her dream of working with aircraft.

At the time, there were no aviation courses available in Tanzania, so she carefully chose physics, geography, and mathematics with guidance from the Civil Aviation Authority, aiming to eventually attend flight school.

Nzota takes pride in being one of the few female engineers globally certifying the Airbus A220, emphasizing the value of long-term experience with aircraft, likening it to caring for a baby.

She urged educational institutions and parents to expose girls to aviation through modern social media platforms, making the field more accessible.

"I encourage girls and women to step up. Whenever there is an opportunity, wherever there are scholarships being offered, be in science or any other field, girls should step up and they should believe that they deserve, they deserve as much as anyone to experience and to go into different industries, especially science," Nzota stated.

Watch the video to learn how girls can prepare academically and professionally to become aircraft maintenance engineers.
