Africa Must Speak ‘With One Voice’ on Its $39 Trillion Mineral Wealth, Says South African Minister

African nations should unite and negotiate as one bloc on the global mineral market, Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources Gwede Mantashe stated at the Mining Indaba conference in Cape Town.

“Those who want our critical minerals must not find it easy to move from one country to the next and actually play us against each other. We must have a uniform framework that guides all of us on the continent, then we are going to be able to compete everywhere.”

Mantashe stressed that a coordinated strategy is key to harnessing booming demand for critical minerals driving the energy and tech transitions.
