Kenya Begins Troop Drawdown in Haiti as UN-Backed Force Takes Over: Foreign Ministry

Kenya will reduce its police deployment in Haiti after completing its core stabilization mission, Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’Oei announced.

The Kenya-led Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission, which deployed 735 officers since October 2023 as the backbone of a nearly 1,000-strong force, will now give way to the UN-backed Gang Suppression Force (GSF).

The Kenyan mission strengthened the Haitian National Police, secured key sites, and helped lay the foundation for a sustainable international security framework, Sing’Oei told local media.

The new GSF, authorized under a stronger UN resolution, is designed for proactive anti-gang operations with a planned force of over 5,500 personnel.
