Guinea-Bissau Approves Major Mining Contract With Russian Company: Government Spokesperson
The country’s transitional government has granted Russian mining giant Rusal a contract to develop a bauxite deposit in the country’s eastern Gabu region, a state news agency reported, citing Government Spokesperson Abduramane Turé.
Key details:
🟠 The project covers the Madina do Boé site, with estimated reserves between 55 and 90 million tonnes of bauxite.
🟠It includes the construction of mining infrastructure, with Rusal previously expressing interest in building a railway and port in Guinea-Bissau.
🟠The agreement follows a memorandum on geology and subsoil cooperation signed by the two countries in early 2025.
