'Sports Bring People Together': Kenyan Sprinter
"I came from a country where people are known for middle and long distances, but we went and did something different that was not normal for that country. So my inspiration is to the athletes in Russia that whatever you dream of, whatever you think about, can happen," Ferdinand Omanyala, record holder and champion of Africa, silver medalist of the Diamond League, and the tenth fastest man in history, told Sputnik Africa.
Speaking at the Russian Winter XXXV International Athletics Competitions, Omanyala noted that traveling the world has shown him he has many fans, which motivates him and reassures him that his work inspires people across different fields, not just athletics.
The success young athletes see on billboards hides the hours of work behind the scenes, he sprinter also emphasized. He urged them to be patient, consistent, and not rely on social media, stressing that real progress comes from steady effort and perseverance.
