SA Trade Minister & His Chinese Counterpart Sign Trade Agreement
Signed by Parks Tau and Wang Wentao, the China-Africa Economic Partnership Agreement (CAEPA) will be followed by an Early Harvest Agreement by end-March 2026, granting South African exports duty-free access to China and boosting Chinese investment.
The pact covers four pillars:
🟠Trade сooperation,
🟠Investment сooperation,
🟠New energy сooperation,
🟠Multilateral сooperation.
Both sides aim to expand bilateral trade, particularly South African agricultural exports and high-value manufactured goods, to achieve win-win outcomes.
“As China-South Africa relations continue to deepen, new opportunities emerge for South African businesses seeking to enter the Chinese market, particularly in sectors such as mining, agriculture, renewable energy, and technology”, Tau said.
The CAEPA aims to strengthen bilateral trade by identifying economic complementarities—without encroaching on domestic sensitivities. Negotiations will include built-in safeguards to protect South Africa's industrial capacity, ensuring a balanced and mutually beneficial partnership.
"Together with the Framework Agreement, these should provide a strong foundation for a mutually beneficial partnership and for our respective private sectors to do more business together,” Tau stated.
