Rwanda’s Security Threat Comes From Armed Militias in Congo: Kagame
🪖 In his state of the nation address, the president said Rwanda’s main problem in the DR Congo is the presence of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda, a militia he linked to the 1994 genocide.
He accused Congo of allowing these groups to operate, arm themselves, and in some cases work alongside the Congolese army. According to Kagame, they promote “genocide ideology” and openly threaten Rwanda’s security.
The head of state also argued that Rwanda is unfairly blamed for regional instability and insists his country will not remain passive while hostile forces operate nearby.
ℹ Rwanda and Congo have long been in tension, mainly over armed groups in eastern Congo linked to Rwanda’s 1994 genocide. Rwanda says these groups threaten its security, while Congo and international partners accuse Rwanda of interfering in the region.
