'Western Technologies Have Played Dual Role in Africa': Tanzanian Cyber Security Expert

Hence, the value from ads, revenue, and data insights flows to foreign corporations instead of bolstering local economies, the speaker said.

Therefore, African leaders should adopt a strategic, long-term approach to their technology policies, Kawau noted.

"This includes developing strong national cybersecurity frameworks, investing in local digital infrastructure such as data centers and cloud services, and prioritizing innovation in STEM education," he stressed.
