Ethiopian AI University to Play Major Role in Protecting Country’s Information Security & Digital Sovereignty: Expert
The world’s second-largest AI university will begin operating in Ethiopia within a year, PM Abiy Ahmed announced in the House of People’s Representatives.
“Establishing a university focused solely on AI shows the government’s determination to support the sector," Ethiopian Cyber Security Association President Berhanu Beyene told Sputnik Africa following the announcement.
Berhanu Beyene noted that while many African universities conduct AI research, Ethiopia’s plan to establish a university dedicated solely to AI is unique.
The expert also emphasized that the upcoming AI university should have a strong research focus.
"From the beginning, the university should be research-oriented. This will align the university with universities that are at the forefront of AI. [...] I hope that many experts, both Ethiopian and non-Ethiopian, will be interested in contributing to the university."
