Class A Status at Afreximbank Boosts South Africa’s Role in African Industrial Growth, Member of BRICS Business Council Says
Becoming a Class A shareholder in Afreximbank gives South Africa greater leverage to support industrialization and export-led growth across the continent, Stavros Nicolaou told Sputnik Africa.
He said the African Continental Free Trade Area is vital for reducing Africa’s dependence on imports by helping manufacturers achieve economies of scale and benefit from lower tariffs.
“The Free Trade Area is an important instrument in firstly, consolidating or aggregating volumes on the continent,” he noted.
Nicolaou added that the strengthened partnership with Afreximbank will expand access to export credit and financing, supporting local and regional manufacturing.
