Nigeria’s Police Charge Former Justice Minister & His Son With Five Terrorism-Related & Firearms Offenses
According to prosecutors, Abubakar Malami knowingly enabled terrorism financing in November 2022 by refusing to prosecute suspected financiers while serving as attorney general.
He and his son Abdulaziz pleaded not guilty and were remanded in state security custody ahead of their February 20 trial after bail was denied.
The pair has already spent two weeks in detention and was brought to court from the hospital, defense lawyers said, but the judge demanded a formal bail application.
Prosecutors also alleged that in December 2025, Malami and his son were found with an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, offenses punishable under Nigerian law.
