Siege Broken: Sudanese Army Reportedly Reopens Lifeline to Kadugli

The Sudanese army announced a major breakthrough on Tuesday after successfully lifting the siege on the capital of South Kordofan, local media reported. The operation followed intense clashes that led to the reopening of the strategic road into the city.

The siege had been imposed by the Rapid Support Forces and their allies in the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North, led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu.

Speaking to journalists, Army Commander and Sovereignty Council Chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan congratulated residents, affirming that the armed forces “will reach any place in Sudan.”

Military leaders reportedly described the operation as a “strategic victory,” ending more than two years of isolation that had blocked food, medicine, and humanitarian aid. The breakthrough also positions the army to threaten rebel strongholds, including Kauda.

However, the celebration was marred by tragedy. Shortly after the army’s entry, RSF drones struck a health center in Kadugli, killing eight civilians, including three children, according to media reports.

Videos shared online showed residents welcoming the forces as they pledged to continue operations toward western regions, including Darfur.
