Which Countries Top Peanut Production in Africa?
Nigeria retains the continent's lead as Africa's top peanut producer, according to the US Department of Agriculture.
Senegal's projected 1.15 million tonnes marks a sharp rebound from 800,000 tonnes in 2024/25, positioning it to overtake Sudan for the first time and claim second place, it noted.
Sudan's output is expected to be at just 1 million tonnes in 2025 and 2026—a steep drop from 1.68 million tonnes in 2024 and 2025, the department reported. The number, it explained, is the lowest in years due to disruptions from the ongoing civil conflict since 2023 impacting key regions (Darfur, Kordofan), supply chains, agricultural financing, and logistics.
