Ramaphosa Urges United Effort to Unlock SA’s Tourism Potential
The president has highlighted tourism as one of South Africa’s key growth sectors, calling on government, businesses, and communities to work together to unlock its full potential.
He said tourism plays a vital role in creating jobs and supporting local economies, noting that “every visitor to our country contributes to our foreign revenue earnings.”
The sector currently sustains about 1.8 million jobs and contributes nearly 9% to GDP.
Ramaphosa outlined government efforts to grow the industry, including improved visa systems, expanded flight routes, stronger safety measures, and major infrastructure investments. He also stressed the importance of skills development and promoting niche markets.
Emphasizing the role of citizens, he said, “Every South African should be a tourism ambassador,” urging communities to help showcase the country’s rich natural beauty, history, and culture to the world.
