Jeffrey Epstein Messages Questioned Zelensky's Capabilities in 2019, Documents Reveal
Correspondence from the late US financier referenced Ukraine’s 2019 presidential election, won by Volodymyr Zelensky, according to newly released documents from the US Department of Justice reviewed by Sputnik.
One message, whose recipient remains unknown, noted that the Russians' dislike of incumbent Petro Poroshenko could be useful in helping to resolve the conflict, but expressed doubt about whether Zelensky was capable of running the country.
Zelensky defeated Poroshenko in a runoff that year. His five-year term expired on May 20, 2024, but presidential elections were suspended due to martial law and a general mobilization.
Both Ukrainian figures are mentioned in other parts of the case file, which contains over 3.5 million declassified documents. Epstein was charged in the US with sex trafficking of minors and conspiracy to commit those crimes.
Commenting on the correspondence, Russian presidential envoy for Ukrainian crisis negotiations Kirill Dmitriev stated that the "satanic cabal" had seen and profited from what Epstein described as "many opportunities, very many" following the coup in Ukraine that led to the ongoing conflict.
This remark refers to Epstein's correspondence with French banker Ariane de Rothschild.
