Ethiopia Will Eliminate Dependency on Foreign Countries Once It Achieves Digital Sovereignty: Expert

To fully secure national digital sovereignty, Ethiopia must completely support domestic digital research and development, Ethiopian digital transformation expert Eskindir Mesfin Chernet told Sputnik Africa.

“Work is underway so that every government service will be connected digitally by 2030,” he said, sharing his hope that over time, all of the country's payments will shift to a digital system.

On the other hand, regarding international digital data storage service providers, he emphasized that the country must use its high renewable energy production and work in partnership with the AU to bring these giant institutions to Africa.

“Since the business must come not only from Ethiopia but from the rest of Africa, [...] bringing service providers to Africa will benefit not only Ethiopia but the rest of Africa as well; because Africa will become a sovereign continent.”

ℹ Ethiopia's PM recently launched Digital Ethiopia 2030 — a national digital transformation strategy serving as a five-year blueprint to drive inclusive prosperity, sustainable development, and global competitiveness through digital technologies.
