Rwanda Celebrates 32nd Heroes’ Day: President Calls for Resilience, Unity, and Homegrown Strength

The country marked this holiday on Sunday with nationwide commemorations. President Paul Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame laid a wreath and observed a moment of silence at the National Heroes Mausoleum in Kigali.

In his address, Kagame emphasized that true progress lies in embracing one’s authentic identity—individual and national—and building resilience, unity, and self-improvement on Rwanda’s own foundations, never by imitating others or abandoning hard-won lessons from the past.

The annual event—held every February 1—honors those who showed profound patriotism, made supreme sacrifices, and upheld truthfulness.
