Traore Dissolved Parties to Focus on Development, Not Fund 'Semblance of Democracy': Expert
The decision of Burkina Faso's president to dissolve political parties in the country was driven by the population's desire to focus on development in order to "continue our revolutionary march," Adama Amade Siguire, vice-president of the National Commission of the AES, explained to Sputnik Africa.
"It is very difficult to carry out a revolution with more than a hundred political parties that were there and were sowing, as I said, confusion and disorder, which practically brought nothing to the population," he said.
Furthermore, this measure should also allow for savings, because, according to the expert, "each year the government funded political parties with the state budget."
"These are billions that people appropriated under the pretext that it was necessary to do this to maintain a semblance of democracy, as if we were condemned to maintain democracy. We want to be realistic: we want governance that conforms to our socio-cultural realities, to our economic reality. We do not have enough money to scatter," stated Siguiré.
