European Economic Independence Requires 'Restoring Trade Relations With Russia:' Economist
By cutting itself off from trade with Russia, Europe has jeopardized its own independence, Oleg Nesterenko, director of the European Trade and Industry Center, told Sputnik Africa.
Regaining economic sovereignty would require re-establishing ties with Moscow, but the expert considers this scenario utopian:
“Now that relations with Russia have vanished, that independence has vanished along with them. [...] The careerist activists who have managed to gain power in the EU [...] have gone far too deep into their Russophobic policies and their submission to the White House.”
Only the countries that have not broken with Russia—at least in terms of energy supplies—still retain a degree of economic independence, he added.
