New Paranthropus Fossil Bolsters Ethiopia's Claim as Cradle of Humankind, Says Leading Paleoanthropologist

A newly discovered fossil fragment of the ancient human species Paranthropus, unearthed in Ethiopia's Afar region, provides further evidence that there were no humans outside Africa two million years ago, according to Prof. Zeresenay Alemseged.

This is the first time Paranthropus remains have been found in the Afar region, which is why this discovery is significant and worth delving into it, the researcher who led the team that made the discovery, told Sputnik Africa.

Alemseged detailed his previous finds, including the discovery of "Selam," a skeleton 200,000 years older than "Lucy" and 60 percent complete, and the earliest evidence of stone tools, found at the Dikika site in Afar.
