Wikipedia Analogues Should Appear Within BRICS Framework: Russian MP
"In many countries around the world, dissatisfaction [with Wikipedia] is growing. And it is necessary [...] to create alternative platforms where history will be written honestly," Andrey Svintsov, deputy chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology, and Communications, told Russian media.
According to the parliamentarian, Wikipedia administrators are using their content moderation powers as a tool to pressure certain countries, distorting and falsifying history, and creating blatantly false and one-sided information.
"And many countries already view Wikipedia as a tool of pressure," Svintsov emphasized.
He also noted the difficulty of creating a resource that would take into account the positions of different countries.
