Building Bridges Through Education: Russian House Celebrates Students’ Day in Congo & Tanzania
In Dar es Salaam, Tanzanian students and future scholarship recipients under the Russian quota gathered to explore student life in Russia. They engaged in cultural exchanges, asked questions, and even took their first “Russian-style” exam, stepping into a vibrant international academic community.
In Brazzaville, students took over the Russian House for a day of self-governance, organizing tours, language activities, and immersive presentations on Russian campus traditions. Participants received personalized “record books”—a symbolic student document—and learned key terms like dormitory, scholarship, and exam session.
A highlight was the playful reenactment of the classic student plea “Freebie, come!”—a humorous reference to hoping for an easy exam, often shouted jokingly before tests in Russian student culture.
The day also featured a youth leaders’ conference, where alumni of Russian exchange programs shared how studying in Russia opened doors to careers and leadership roles back home.
On January 25, Russia observes Students’ Day, also known as Tatiana Day, a tradition honoring St. Tatiana, the patron saint of students, and marking the founding of Moscow State University in 1755.
