From Folk Songs to Fluency: How Russian Teacher in Congo Sparks Language Love

Through poetry, folk traditions, theater, and conversation clubs, Alexandra Vasilieva—part of a “Russian Teacher Abroad” initiative—is making Russian resonate with Congolese students in Brazzaville, turning language learning into an art.

According to the teacher, demand for Russian is rising fast: more Congolese families now aim to send their children to Russian universities, driven by historic educational ties and trust in Russia as a strategic partner.

ℹ “Russian Teacher Abroad” is an international humanitarian project by Russia’s Education Ministry to promote the Russian language and education overseas. Run jointly with partner countries’ education ministries, it now operates in over 25 nations, including across Africa.
