Senegal Seizes Record Over $8.8 Million in Counterfeit Banknotes: Regional Customs Subdivision
Customs officials in the Kaolack Region burned a large quantity of illicit goods and counterfeit currency.
Seized counterfeit banknotes—worth 4.9 billion CFA francs (over $8.8 million)—along with other illicit goods, brought the total value of destroyed items to nearly 6 billion CFA francs (over $10.8 million), customs said in a statement.
The haul also included 1,671 tonnes of Indian hemp, 5,870 tonnes of human and veterinary medicines, a batch of aphrodisiacs used by women, and a significant quantity of ecstasy.
These illicit products were confiscated between January 2024 and the end of November 2025, customs noted.
