Egyptian Writer Awarded First BRICS Literature Award: Correspondent
Novelist Salwa Bakr received the inaugural prize at a ceremony held during the 2026 Cairo International Book Fair, a Sputnik correspondent reported.
The winner's name was announced on November 30, 2025, in Russia's Khabarovsk, following deliberations by an international jury.
"I am happy and proud to be the first winner of this award," said the writer upon receiving the prize.
"This award is based on a profound vision that differs from the one that dominates the world of literary prizes today, because BRICS is above all a civilizational union that has been helping to shape a global humanist culture for decades," Bakr noted.
🪶 Created in November 2024 in Moscow during the BRICS forum, this award aims to highlight the literature of the group's countries and draw the international community's attention to the cultural richness of these nations.
