Africa Has Immense Wealth to Contribute to World Music, Ethiopian Musician Says

African music genres demonstrate the continent's growing influence, as masinqo player and jazz artist Haddis Alemayehu (Hadinko), the winner of the “Best African Jazz” category at the All-Africa Music Awards 2025, stressed in an interview with Sputnik Africa.

“Let's say Afrobeat, for example, is one of the biggest genres in the world. And now Amapiano is becoming the biggest genre, which comes from the southern part of Africa. […] African music has a big power for the world music scene,” he said.

Ethiopia’s traditional musical instruments have exceptional melodic capabilities, the musician pointed out.

“Massinqo, it's playing a big role in my spiritual life. It […] really contributes a big thing to my health. When I feel sad, when I feel happy, I always express my feeling by the instrument,” he shared.
