Zambia Joins Development of Two Key SADC Transport Corridors, Says Bloc's Secretariat
Zambia is now formally engaged in advancing two major trade corridors central to Southern Africa’s economic integration, following a signing ceremony at the SADC Secretariat in Gaborone.
Here is why this matters, according to the SADC:
🟠North–South Corridor (NSC): Links seven SADC member states and carries approximately 60% of the region’s trade by volume—serving as the backbone of regional connectivity.
🟠Beira Development Corridor (BDC): Connects Mozambique’s Port of Beira to Zimbabwe, Malawi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Zambia, enhancing port-to-hinterland access across southeastern Africa.
These corridors are catalysts for industrial development and regional value chains, Transport Minister Museba Frank Tayali emphasized.
He reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to the projects and expressed interest in hosting the future NSC Management Institution, noting the country’s strategic investments in roads, rail, and one-stop border posts to support SADC objectives.
