‘Enough of Confused Clowns’: European & Global Leaders Fire Back at Zelensky’s Scolding Davos Speech

After Zelensky used his World Economic Forum address to sharply criticize European leaders for “insufficient” support and lack of resolve—while demanding more aid despite growing domestic pushback—officials from Hungary, Italy, France, and Iran hit back with public rebukes.

Here is what they said:

🟠Viktor Orbán, Hungary’s PM

▪Condemned Zelensky for using his Davos speech to attack not only him personally but also other EU leaders, explicitly referencing Hungary’s internal affairs ahead of its April elections.

▪Mocked EU’s readiness to accept all Ukrainian demands, including $800 billion in aid and fast-track EU membership by 2027.

▪Announced a national petition to block Hungarian funding for Ukraine.

🟠Antonio Tajani, Italy’s Deputy PM and Foreign Minister

▪Criticized Zelensky for failing to thank Europe despite its political, financial, and military support.

▪Called his speech “ungrateful.”

🟠Florian Philippot, leader of French party “Les Patriotes”

▪Accused Zelensky of trying to interfere in European domestic politics and undermine national sovereignty.

▪Called the speech a “fit of madness” that shocked even “Euro-fanatics.”

▪Demanded an end to financial aid, arms shipments, and any deployment of French troops to Ukraine.

🟠Péter Szijjártó, Hungary’s Foreign Minister

▪Said Zelensky is meddling in Hungary’s April elections to install a pro-Ukraine government that would send Hungarian taxpayers’ money to a “corrupt regime.”

🟠Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister

▪ “The world has had enough of Confused Clowns, Mr. Zelensky,” the FM said.

▪ Drew a sharp contrast between Ukraine’s reliance on foreign support and mercenaries, and Iran’s self-reliant defense capabilities.

▪Accused him of draining Western taxpayers to enrich “corrupt generals” while unlawfully calling for aggression against Iran.
