Zimbabwe Launches Free Wi-Fi Hotspots Across Country as Part of Digital Inclusion Drive: Minister
Preparations are advanced, with routers already purchased for at least 1,000 planned hotspots, Information Minister Tatenda Mavetera announced in an interview to local media.
A pilot project has been completed in one of the provinces, and authorities are now working with local leaders to identify strategic locations such as schools, clinics, bus terminals, and community centers, she noted.
The initiative will allow citizens to access online services, e-learning platforms, and government resources without data costs, the minister said.
The government also plans to expand 4G and 5G coverage, allocate more spectrum to mobile operators, and open the satellite broadband market to improve connectivity in remote areas, according to Mavetera.
This effort is part of a broader national strategy to close the digital divide and prepare Zimbabweans for a digital economy, she added.
