Ethiopia Creates Enabling Conditions for Technology-Assisted Elections by Amending Electoral Proclamation
The House of Peoples' Representatives has amended Proclamation No. 1162/2011 in particular, thereby creating the enabling conditions for candidate and voter registration—as well as other operations of the Board—to be supported by digital technology, the speaker of the house, Tagesse Chafo, told local media.
The speaker, who noted that the House has long been actively improving the legal framework, pointed out that the National Election Board's recent readiness report demonstrates that it is adequately prepared to conduct the election in accordance with its constitutional authority.
It was previously announced by the National Election Board that voter registration for the 7th General National Election will take place from February 14 to March 16, with polling day set for June 1.
