Africa Leads Global Tourism Recovery With Strongest Growth in 2025: UN Report
Global international tourist arrivals reached a record 1.52 billion in 2025, up 4% from 2024, with Africa leading growth at an 8% surge, according to the latest UN Tourism Barometer.
Key facts from the report:
🟠The growth in Africa's international tourist arrivals was driven by a remarkable 11% rebound in North Africa;
🟠Morocco, the continent's largest destination, welcomed nearly 20 million visitors, a 14% increase;
🟠Other top-performing African destinations included Egypt (+20%), South Africa (+19%), Ethiopia (+15%), Seychelles (+13%), Tunisia (+10%), and Sierra Leone (+10%);
🟠Europe, the most visited region, hosted 793 million arrivals, a 4% increase;
🟠Asia and the Pacific continued its rebound strongly, with arrivals up 6%, reaching 91% of pre-pandemic levels;
🟠The Americas saw modest 1% growth, while the Middle East grew 3%, remaining 39% above 2019 levels;
🟠Global tourism export revenue reached a record $2.2 trillion in 2025;
🟠The outlook for 2026 projects continued growth of 3% to 4%, supported by major events like the FIFA World Cup and improved global air connectivity.
