Africans can only shape how the world sees them by first building and owning their own infrastructure—which will then enable others to connect and build upon it, Paulos Ngwenya and Simon Ntshayintshayi, co-founders of Ghettoflix, told Sputnik Africa.
"We had to shift our mindset to liberate ourselves in the media space to say, Let's come in and let's now move to access and ownership."
GhettoFlix, an African streaming platform, is transforming South African film and TV by cutting through red tape and challenging industry monopolies to ensure African stories are told—by Africans, Ngwenya stated.
He added that as a filmmaker, it’s deeply frustrating when broadcasters reshape your story beyond recognition. That’s why they created a platform with no red tape, where stories remain as original as possible. Their slogan, “Your home, your story, your language,” reflects their commitment to promoting African culture and languages globally.
“Africans” does not refer to race or skin color but to anyone born in Africa, Ngwenya emphasized, noting that all such people should benefit from this shared vision.
"Everyone in every corner in Africa has got a story to tell so that's why it is important that we create this platform and we say Africans now we have our platform."
