South Africa Declares National Disaster Following Floods That Have Killed Dozens of People
Floods, lightning, strong winds, and rain have affected Limpopo, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Cape, and North West provinces since late December 2025, South Africa's National Disaster Management Centre said.
The disasters have claimed dozens of lives and caused damage to infrastructure and property, according to the document published on the government website.
Earlier, the South African Meteorological Service issued the highest alert level for the provinces of Limpopo and Mpumalanga for the first time in almost four years.
