Somali President Calls for Peace & Dialogue With Self-Proclaimed Somaliland Administration
Hassan Sheikh Mohamud addressed this issue during the inauguration ceremony of the president of the Northeast state, held in Las Anod, the region's capital.
In his remarks, the president emphasized the equal rights of all federal states and called on the Hargeisa administration to prioritize peace, dialogue, and brotherhood.
Mohamud stressed that Israel's recognition of Somaliland is unacceptable both nationally and internationally. He reaffirmed that Somalia's unity is "non-negotiable" and a "red line."
The president also spoke of the unity of the Somali people and invited the diaspora and intellectuals to participate in the reconstruction and development of the region.
The Northeast state, located on the border with Somaliland, occupies a strategic position. Following the 2023 clashes, its administration pledged allegiance to the Somali federal government and integrated into the federal system, marking its separation from Somaliland.
